Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins did not hide his annoyance at the play-calling which led to a costly late fumble by QB Tyler Huntley in Sunday’s play-off defeat to the Bengals.
With the game locked at 17-17, Huntley, in for the injured Lamar Jackson, looked to break the plane into the end zone for a go-ahead touchdown, only for it to be fumbled in the air and end up with Bengals defensive lineman Sam Hubbard.
Hubbard raced clear for a 98-yard go-ahead touchdown, ending the Ravens’ season, and Dobbins was furious that he was not on the field with the ball in his hands on such a key possession.

‘[Huntley] should have never been in that situation,’ Dobbins said after 24-17 loss, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.
‘I don’t get a single carry [on that drive]. I didn’t get a single carry. He should never have been in that situation. I believe I would have put it in the end zone, again.’
On that crucial – and game-settling – drive, Ravens set up first-and-goal at the two-yard line and passed on first down.
From there they handed the ball to RB Gus Edwards for second down before attempting the botched QB sneak with Huntley on third down.

Dobbins had just 13 carries for 62 yards in Cincinnati, with a receiving touchdown as well on his stats sheet.
Unhappy at the decision to both put the ball in the hands of Huntley on the decisive third-and-goal play from the Bengals’ 1-yard line, Dobbins called for a bigger role in the offence as well.
‘I should be the guy,’ Dobbins fumed.
‘I’m tired of holding that back. I’m tired of that. [Thirteen carries], it’s the playoffs. I’m tired of holding that back. Let’s go win the game. I’m tired of that.’
Ravens staff have been cautious in their use of Dobbins due to his injury history – he missed the entire 2021 season with a torn ACL and managed to play just eight times in the 2022 regular season.
Dobbins was on the sidelines on the decisive drive but had impressed with a TD earlier in game
It is also true that Dobbins has not been given more than 17 carries in a game this season, which is bothering him.
He added, in a not-so-subtle shot to head coach John Harbaugh and his staff: ‘I’m a playmaker. I’m a guy that my team-mates feed off me when I’m on the field. I should be out there all the time.’
Dobbins is in an interesting situation having now publicly called out the decisions of the coaching staff, in that the Ohio State star heads into the final year of his rookie deal during the 2023 season.
