Derek Carr says he’d rather ‘quit football’ than play with a team other than the Raiders

Derek Carr is  a Las Vegas Raider through and through.

Carr has spent the entirety of his career in Las Vegas (and Oakland) silver and black, and after his comments on Tuesday, he wants to end his career in the desert.

Speaking after Vegas minicamp practice, Carr said he’d rather retire than play for someone other than the Raiders.

“I’d probably quit football if I had to play for somebody else,” Carr said Tuesday. “I am a Raider for my entire life. I’m going to root for one team for the rest of my life — it’s the Raiders. So, I just feel that so strong in my heart I don’t need a perfect situation to make things right.

“I’d rather go down with the ship, you know what I’m saying, if I have to.”

Per reports, the Raiders had discussions to land an upgrade at quarterback with multiple teams this offseason: Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers have all been attached to trade rumors to Vegas.

Carr’s standing as top-15 quarterback in the NFL has been solidified under head coach Jon Gruden, and he had one of his best seasons as Raiders passer in 2020: Carr threw for 4,100 yards and 27 touchdowns in an 8-8 season.

There’s some thought as to whether or not Carr will be able to take Vegas to the next level. So far, he has produced just one winning season as the starting quarterback in seven years, and unfortunatley an injury prevented him from playing in the playoffs after the 2016 season. He has made three Pro Bowls.

Hopefully the Raiders ship doesn’t sink anytime soon, for Carr’s sake.
