PITTSBURGH — The Chicago Bears activated running back David Montgomery off injured reserve in advance of Monday night’s game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced.

Montgomery, 24, has been out since he suffered a sprained knee in a Week 4 victory over the Detroit Lions.

On the season, Montgomery has 309 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 69 attempts.

Drafted by the Bears in the third round out of Iowa State in 2019, Montgomery has been Chicago’s leading rusher in each of the past two seasons. Last year, Montgomery ran for a team-high 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns.

Rookie Khalil Herbert excelled in Montgomery’s absence, averaging over 4.5 yards per rushing attempt. Montgomery and Herbert are both expected to receive ample playing time against the Steelers.
