World’s richest tennis star with insane net worth avoids Indian Wells upset

Jessica Pegula had enough to see off the threat of world ranked No.26 Anastasia Potapova at the Indian Wells Masters on Sunday (3-6 6-4 7-5) to boost her astonishing net worth.

Pegula, who is currently ranked No.3, has banked £6.62million in prize money during her professional career but that barely has an impact on her net worth.

Pegula took on Potapova on Court 2 in a bid to continue a fine 12 months having reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open and reaching the French Open final in 2022.

Pegula's parents Terry and Kim are the owners of NFL side Buffalo Bills and NHL outfit Buffalo Sabres – with an estimated net worth of £5.5billion according to Forbes.

Pegula said back in 2020: "I know I was more privileged than other people. I'm aware of that. I try to be very down-to-earth, and I think I am."

Pegula beat Camila Giorgi across three sets in her opening match of the singles draw, with the tournament considered by many to be the closest in stature to the four Grand Slams.

With £45,000 and 65 ranking points already in the bag by reaching the last 32, that has risen to £80k and 90 ranking points, with just over £1million and 1000 points for the singles winners.

During her clash against Potapova, Pegula appeared to be unhappy with the surface of the court, seemingly looking over to her coach.

However, she rallied to get the match won in the beaming Californian sun, remaining in the tournament that comes to a close on March 19.

Potapova, who hit the headlines when becoming the 2016 Wimbledon Championships girls' singles champion, has already banked more than £1.5m in prize money despite only being 21.

Next up for Pegula is a clash against either two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova or Jeļena Ostapenko, who won the French Open back in 2017.

Other big names still in the tournament include sixth seed Coco Gauff and favourite Iga Swiatek as well as Brit Emma Raducanu.
