Ultimate Novak Djokovic memes on social media – from The Terminal to Ryanair

It hasn't taken long for the internet to make jokes on behalf of Novak Djokovic, who is currently being held at a 'refugee detention centre' in Melbourne.

Djokovic jetted down under to defend his Australian Open title, but a monumental mix up has left his title defence up in the air.

The World No.1 had been handed a medical exemption to compete, but after applying for the wrong type of visa, he was denied entry.

The Serbian was then moved to the Park Hotel in Melbourne, where he remains.

And the internet was quick to make jokes on the tennis stars behalf.

The first major meme to take off, if you pardon the pun, depicted Djokovic on the poster for the 2004 hit film The Terminal.

The Terminal is loosely based on the story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.

Due to a complex socio-political situation in Iran, Nasseri found himself stateless and stuck in Terminal One of the airport for 18 years of his life.

And fans joked that Djokovic could be ready to star in the second instalment of the series.

Ryanair also got in on the action when they tweeted a cheeky 'hawkeye' meme with the Serbian being ruled out on the court and out of Australia.

The Irish airline then jokingly offered Djokovic a flight home.

Another meme depicted Roger Federer as the Australian Border Control, who had refused Djokovic's entry.

While a fourth showed Djokovic on the hit Australian TV show Aussie Border Force with the caption: "Can't wait for tonight's episode."

Djokovic broke his silence on Friday after initially being detained on Wednesday afternoon.

The World No.1 said: "Thank you to people around the world for your continuous support. I can feel it and it is greatly appreciated."

Before he added, in Serbian: "Thank you to my family, Serbia and all good people across the world who are sending me support. Thanks to dear God for health."
