Tom Brady ‘might be tempted to retire’ if Bucs beat Chiefs in Super Bowl
NFL pundit Mike Carlson believes a seventh Super Bowl victory could see Tom Brady retire.
Brady takes part in his tenth Super Bowl on Sunday as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s the 43-year-old’s first season in Tampa having achieved all of his success with the New England Patriots.
And Carlson admits a win on Sunday over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs could see Brady call it quits having ticked every box in an NFL career.
Carlson told Daily Star Sport: “Winning the Super Bowl is no easy task, very few people can do it two years in a row, or even two years out of three.
“For him to do it with another team in his first try, given the lack of pre-season, a win cements him as the greatest ever, a loss doesn’t do much to take away his status.
“I don’t think you demote him as a result of getting to the Super Bowl and losing. Getting there is tremendously undervalued, whereas winning it is probably a little overvalued.
“If he wins, I think he might be tempted to retire, [wife] Giselle might have an argument to argue that he should, unless she doesn’t want him around the house too much.”
Mahomes will be looking to make it back-to-back Super Bowl victories having guided the Chiefs to last season’s showpiece victory.
At just 25, many believe Mahomes can go on to become regarded even better than Brady and potentially beat his record.

Carlson added: “If Mahomes wins, that’s two in a row, and you’re thinking that’s early in his career but he just took a giant step towards being in the contention for being the greatest of all time category.
“By the time he retires, we’ll be even more confused because our present mode of evaluating quarterbacks assumes Philip Rivers has to be a Hall of Famer, when he was probably at peak the fourth best QB in the league.”
