Sky Sports slammed for "distasteful" ad showing late Shane Warne during Test

Offbeat news from the world of sport

Sky Sports have been slammed by some cricket fans for a "distasteful" and "shocking" decision to air an advert starring Shane Warne.

Warne stars in an advert for Advanced Hair Studio – advertising hair transplants, such as the one he received from the company. And the advert has been commonplace during England's third test with New Zealand.

However, some fans have fumed at Sky Sports for deciding to air the advert following the death of the Australian cricket legend. Warne, 52, died in March when on holiday in Thailand, with a post-mortem revealing the cricket legend died of natural causes.

One fan tweeted: "Do you really think it's appropriate showing adverts during the test match which feature the late Shane Warne? Bit distasteful in my eyes…"

"I don't feel good about Shane Warne being used to promote products still. Hopefully, his family are getting paid for it," another added. While a third tweeted: "Am I the only person who thinks it a bit disrespectful that @AdvHairStudio still use the late Shane Warne in their TV advert?"

A fourth added: "Hiya @SkyCricket not sure a bald denying ad featuring Shane Warne is in the best possible taste."

Sky Sports had aired a series of tributes to Warne during the first England and New Zealand Test at Lord's.

The main commentary box at the home of cricket has also been named in honour of the Australian.
