Shane Warne’s family post poignant tribute on late cricket star’s 53rd birthday

The family of legendary spin bowler Shane Warne have shared a heartfelt tribute on what would have been his 53rd birthday.

The Australian sensation died of a suspected heart attack whilst holidaying on the island Ko Samui in Thailand earlier this year. Since his tragic passing, Warne's social media accounts have remained idle – but six months on from his death, the family of the late cricketing hero have shared a moving accolade across Warne's platforms.

"A legacy gives you a perspective on what's important," shared Warne's family on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. "It is about the richness of an individual's life, including what they accomplished and the impact they had on people and places.

"Shane's legacy will live on. Happy birthday – always in our hearts." The message ended with three consecutive white heart emojis.

Warne's youngest child Brooke also shared her own individual tribute by commenting two white heart emoticons on either side of her late father's famed jersey number, 23.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest bowlers of all time, Warne became the first player in cricketing history to claim 600 Test wickets by bowling out England's Marcus Trescothick in the third Test of the 2005 Ashes.

Retiring from international cricket after the 2006/07 Ashes series, the Australian received a standing ovation when taking his 700th wicket on Boxing Day 2006 in his final appearance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

A memorial service was held at the MCG following his untimely passing, where mourners laid wreaths and bouquets of flowers underneath his iconic statue.

The MCG renamed their Great Southern Stand in memory of the legendary spin bowler last year. It is now known as the Shane Warne Stand.
