Power Slap star can barely stand up after huge face whack that has fans wincing

Power Slap star Darius "The Destroyer" Mata-Varona could barely stand after taking a brutal whack to the face in Dana White's controversial new combat sports promotion.

The Destroyer was knocked out in round one of the inaugural heavyweight title fight in UFC kingpin White's first ever Power Slap showcase event.

And fans were left sickened as the brutal violence of the sport was on show in a devastating slap from his rival Ron "The Wolverine" Bata.

White's venture into the sport of 'slap fighting' has been slammed by MMA fans, with the premise of the dubious contests to strike undefended opponents so hard that they can no longer continue.

Mata-Varona had never been beaten in a power slap contest before coming up against Wolverine at the UFC Apex at Power Slap 1 in Las Vegas.

But Wolverine caused the upset of the night with a devastating blow that wiped The Destroyer out for the first time in his slap career.

He had to be carried by officials to avoid falling to the canvas, before the referee waved the fight off as he returned to his feet clearly dazed.

"Not sure how this sport is considered safe," one fan said. "I still can't see how this is a thing," another agreed. One user then reacted: "A brutal, non defensive vulgarity. Shouldn't be coined "a sport".

Despite widespread backlash, White hailed the Power Slap League's first championship as the perfect night in the immediate aftermath of the heavyweight contest.

"Wow, what a f****** first show, what a night," he told his new promotion."I've been excited about this for a while and it couldn't have got any better. Thanks everyone for watching!"

Reacting to Wolverine's knockout, the UFC president added: "Incredible, you couldn't script the night any better than this!"
