Patrick Mahomes gives classy response to Tom Brady question ahead of Super Bowl
Patrick Mahomes admits it’s “special” to be facing Tom Brady at a Super Bowl with Kansas City Chiefs set to take on Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The two will meet at the Raymond James Stadium next Sunday with Bucs QB Brady, 43, aiming for his seventh Vince Lombardi trophy.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are reigning Super Bowl champions having beaten the San Francisco 49ers last year.
Brady has made the season finale in his first season with Tampa having previously achieved plenty of success at the New England Patriots.
Mahomes was asked on the Dan Patrick Show what his reaction would have been if, while at college, he was told he would face Tom Brady in a Super Bowl.
And the 25-year-old quarterback said: “I didn’t know he would be on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I can tell you that. I’d have thought I’d have to be on the NFC somewhere.
“It’s special. I’ve had a great start to my career but it’s because I’m at a great organisation with a lot of great people around me.
“I try to take advantage of all the opportunities I’ve been given and don’t take them granted.
What NFL legends Tom Brady and Drew Brees said to each other in emotional embrace
“I didn’t know I could play and be in Super Bowls until I was in the NFL and made my first Super Bowl.
“You know you have a great team around you, and you know you’re doing everything in the right way, but until you get to that game, you don’t understand exactly what it takes.
“Going into this season I had a lot more confidence in myself and my team-mates because I knew what it took to get to the Super Bowl.”
