Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson has died at the age of 26.

The NFL team announced the tragic news on Wednesday through their Twitter page. His cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

A statement released by the Ravens read: "We are profoundly saddened by the sudden passing of Jaylon Ferguson. He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality.

"We express our heartfelt condolences to Jaylon's family and friends as we mourn a life lost much too soon."

Ferguson was drafted in 2019 out of Louisiana Tech by the Baltimore Ravens as a third-round pick. The 6ft5in star held the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) record for career sacks with 45, earning him the nickname 'Sack Daddy'.

He had since gone on to complete 67 tackles and 4.5 sacks for the Ravens. And ESPN claim he had taken part in all of the team's 2022 offseason practices.

Meanwhile, Ferguson's agent Safarrah Lawson commented: "It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Baltimore Ravens LB Jaylon Ferguson. The family asks for your prayers and privacy during this trying time."
