NBA Trade Deadline: What the hell just happened?

Nikola Vucevic was the only current All-Star who switched teams on a chaotic but somewhat low-impact NBA Trade Deadline day.

Vucevic’s Orlando Magic were the big movers, blowing up their team after following back-to-back playoff seasons with a disappointing 15-29 start to this season.

Currently sitting in second-last place in the Eastern Conference, the Magic signalled their intent to rebuild by shipping out Vucevic to the Chicago Bulls, Evan Fournier to the Boston Celtics and Aaron Gordon to the Denver Nuggets.

The Raptors were expected to be the other major players but when the deadline passed on Friday at 6am (AEDT) veteran guard Kyle Lowry remained in Toronto.

“In the end, (Raptors president of basketball operations) Masai Ujiri didn’t find a package that compelled him to trade Kyle Lowry — and Lowry had always been fine with completing the season with the Raptors,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted. “Now, Lowry can head to free agency in the summer.”

The Raptors did however send Norman Powell to Portland.

The Miami Heat also added talent as they prepare for another playoff run, making a move for Houston Rockets guard Victor Oladipo.

Ben Simmons’ Philadelphia 76ers added veteran guard George Hill.

Elsewhere, there was no trade for Lonzo Ball, who is staying in New Orleans, or Andre Drummond, who is expected to work out a buy out with Detroit. The Spurs were also unable to find a trade partner for LaMarcus Aldridge and agreed to buy out his contract, leaving him free to sign with a new team.

Here is a list of every move made, with the understanding some trades may still yet to be announced.
