Naked golf streaker played in bunker and danced on course as stewards watched on

Offbeat news from the world of sport

American golf fans got to see a hole-in-one at the 2018 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Pro-Am – just not the type they wanted.

With security anything but tight, one male fan took the opportunity to strip off and head out to the 17th fairway, putting on his own show for fellow spectators. Starting with some interesting dance moves, he then proceeded to practice some imaginary golf swings.

With course officials still nowhere to be seen, the fan then delved into a nearby bunker, throwing sand up in the air. Things got even more bizarre as he proceeded to spin around on his back on the grass.

By this point stewards were visible but simply watching on. In fact, it was only when the tearaway spectator lay flat on his back on the fairway, motionless, did they decide to surround him.

Eventually, after nearly two minutes of impromptu entertainment, the male was escorted off the course without constraint. He did manage to cover his crown jewels during his exit though, whilst receiving an ironic round of applause.

A video of the incident was uploaded to YouTube by user Seth Norris, and followers seemed united in finding it hilarious. The caption suggested the fan had enjoyed a beverage or two before his show: "Drunk streaker gets destroyed by the 17th fairway at the 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open."

Camop 1992 responded: "I think he was using he wrong "club" length." Lance Mannion added: "That guy needs to work on his long game…" while a user called 'D' posted "Lol oh my the party has started."

Whilst the incident would have proved an annoyance to tournament organisers, UK football authorities would probably welcome such a gentle 'pitch' invasion. The topic has been in the news this week after crowd trouble marred matches in the Premier League and football league play-offs.

On Thursday night, a video emerged of Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira appearing to act angrily towards an Everton fan after the home fans fled onto the pitch at Goodison Park. Everton had secured their league survival after coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
