Mo Farah says woman ripped up papers in exact moment he knew he was in ‘trouble’
Mo Farah has shed light on the horrifying moment he knew he was in a precarious position as he was unwittingly human trafficked into the United Kingdom as a child, describing the entire ordeal in detail.
Earlier this week, Farah – the most successful British track athlete in Olympics history – made the startling announcement that he was trafficked into the United Kingdom as a child. After arriving, he was allegedly forced into domestic servitude.
Farah also declared his birth name was Hussein Abdi Kahin. While he originally said he came to the UK with his father as refugees when he was eight-years-old, Farah revealed his father was killed in civil war conflict in Somalia before he was trafficked into the country.

In the documentary ‘The Real Mo Farah’, he describes the scene as he was trafficked into the UK and bravely recalls the moment he found himself in trouble as he came from Somalia.. He said: “I was nine years old. I thought I was going out to Europe to live with relatives.
“I remember getting on the plane with this lady. She’s got two kids and I’m excited because I’ve never been on a plane before. So we got off the plane with the woman and her kids and going around, looking around, just amazed.
“We go through passport check and the lady going, ‘Yeah, don’t forget, Mohamed, Mohamed.’ I was like ‘Mohamed, Mohamed’ because that was on the document. Stamp, go through. On the other side, she says to me, ‘Don’t say anything. Don’t talk. This is your name, that’s it.’ We see this man standing, just looking around. In Somali, I can understand clear – ‘Where’s Mohamed? Where is he?’ He was her husband and their family name was Farah.
“He was waiting for them and his oldest son Mohamed. That’s when I realised I had taken Mohamed’s place.
“I had all the contact details for my relative and once we got to her house, the lady took it off me and right in front of me ripped them up and put it in the bin, and at that moment, I knew I was in trouble.”

Farah recalled being treated ‘very differently’ when the man was around, but he was often away from the house. The 39-year-old believes the woman that looked after him treated him appallingly.
“From day one, the lady, what she did wasn’t right,” Farah said. “I wasn’t treated as part of the family. I was always that kid who did everything. More someone who works for you.
“If I wanted food in my mouth, my job was to look after those kids – shower them, cook for them, clean for them. And she said, ‘If you ever want to see your family again, don’t say anything. If you say anything, they will take you away’.
“Often I would just lock myself in the bathroom and cry, and nobody’s there to help so, after a while, I just learned not to have that emotion.
“I told myself one day I will see my real family. That’s what was going through my mind and I kept telling myself day and day again I will see them one day.”
