Durant was assessed a Flagrant 2 by the officals after he elbowed Pistons big man Kelly Olynyk as he attempted to fight through a screen, shoving Olynyk to the ground. Upon review the foul was deemed ‘unneccessary and excessive’.
It mattered for little as the Nets cruised to a 117-91 win at Barclays Center with Durant finishing with 23 points and five assists on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.
The two teams will meet again in Detroit on Friday.
Durant’s ejection comes after he was fined $25,000 for throwing the ball into the stands in frustration in their game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
At the time, he was assessed a technical foul, however in accordance with the rulebook he should have been ejected, with crew chief Sean Wright saying as much postgame
“In real time, the official that made the call did not think the ball entered the stands with force,” Wright said after the game. “After seeing the video postgame, we did see that the ball did go into the stands with force and Kevin Durant should have been ejected.”
