Kansas City Chiefs’ ‘advantage’ over Tampa Bay Buccaneers going into Super Bowl

BBC NFL pundit Jason Bell believes Kansas City Chiefs have an advantage over Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the build-up to Sunday’s Super Bowl.

The Bucs will be the first team to ever play a Super Bowl in their home stadium having reached the season’s finale in Tom Brady’s debut year in Florida.

Traditionally, teams fly in to the host city a week in advance of the Super Bowl with plenty of media commitments in the days building up to the game.

Though things are a bit different this year amid the coronavirus pandemic with the Bucs already at home while the Chiefs treat the match like any other road trip.

And Bell believes that could work perfectly for Kansas City, saying: “The thing is each week you as a player, you got to prepare yourself.

“So when you remove yourself from being at home, whatever you do throughout the week changes. I mean, just sleeping in your own bed is significant.

“So I'm just getting on the flight Saturday. I think that's advantageous to them. This is something they're totally used to. It's the routine.

“So I think it's going to make for an even better performance. They don't have the distraction of the week.”

A limited amount of fans will be at the Raymond James Stadium for Sunday’s showdown, though the Chiefs aren’t thinking about that as they remain in Missouri.

“It takes a lot of the hoopla out of the Super Bowl, but at the same time it’s a business trip,” veteran backup quarterback Chad Henne said.

“It kind of takes the distractions out of it for us. So I think it’s just like a regular away game for us leading up to to it.”

While safety Tyrann Mathieu added: “It’s the Super Bowl all right, no way around that.

“Doesn’t matter what it is that’s going on, we’re going to be ready to roll come Super Bowl day. Doesn’t matter when we fly in and get there, I think … we’re ready for the challenge.”
