Hot dog king Joey Chestnut chokes protestor who invades stage to crowd disbelief
Hot dog eating legend Joey Chestnut munched his way to a 15th victory in the Nathan’s Fourth of July hot dog eating contest and even found time to deal with a protestor who invaded the stage.
American hero Chestnut is the frankfurter-gobbling equivalent to Phil Taylor in darts, Lewis Hamilton in F1 or Usain Bolt in the 100m – except his speciality involves snacking on sausages.
Nicknamed 'Jaws', the 38-year-old chomped his way through an eye-watering 63 hot dogs and buns at the annual wienerthon, but unusually it wasn't his eating exploits that grabbed the headlines. Midway through the event, Chestnut, wearing a protective boot because of a leg injury, found himself dealing with a protestor dressed in a Darth Vader mask who had invaded the stage.

The protestor leaped onto the stage with a sign that read "Expose Smithfield Death Star." But sausage King chestnut wasn't much bothered by what the intruder had to say as he put him in a chokehold before security wrestled him to the ground.
Chestnut, who at this point had just obliterated his 17th hot dog, received praise for his actions on social media. One person wrote: "Chestnut just obliterated him." While someone else said: "Chestnut is an American hero, destroyed a protester still won the contest."

A third user called Chestnut a "beast," as a fourth commenter chimed in with: "This was amazing too. Joey Chestnut took down 63 hot dogs and a protester."
Remarkably, Chestnut didn't let the unwelcome intruder put him off his stride as he regained his composure and settled back into a nice rhythm to win the contest for the 15th time.
Despite claiming a seventh consecutive victory, the California native couldn't beat his own record of 76 hot dogs in ten minutes, falling short by 13.
Nevertheless, Chestnut was delighted with his afternoon's work. "It’s beautiful to be back here," he told ESPN afterwards. "It hurts, but I was in the zone for a little bit. I was ignoring it," he said of his leg injury.
Women's record-holder Miki Sudo wolfed down 40 wieners to win the women's title after missing last year's sausage fest because she was pregnant.
"I want to set an example," she said, "to do things that you love and push yourself to your absolute limits and, when things get difficult, to still give it a try. And, you know, you might actually just come out victorious."
