Ex-England cricketer suffers bikini malfunction and says ‘must not buy cheap’
A World Cup-winning cricketer has vowed never to ‘buy cheap’ again after suffering an unfortunate bikini malfunction.
Alex Hartley was part of the England team that won the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2017, taking 10 wickets in the tournament, including two for 58 in the final against India at Lord’s. The 30-year-old, who recently retired from playing, has moved into the media and coaching, recently landing a job in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Multan Sultans.
Hartley also has a strong social media following with almost 180,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter). Her latest post on the platform involved a faltering bikini while sunbathing next to a swimming pool in India, where she is working as a pundit at the current Cricket World Cup.

Her bikini bottoms had left an imprint on her white towel with Hartley writing: “A short story… Must not buy cheap bikini’s [with bikini and facepalming emojis].”
In reply, one fan quipped: “Good job it didn't dissolve.” A second suggested: “Probably don't buy from Bury Market in future. My mum used to buy my jeans from Bury Market and I always ended up with blue legs.”

Following her media commitments in India, Hartley will travel to Pakistan, where she will make history as the first women’s coach is PSL history along with former Ireland player Catherine Dalton. Hartley will be a spin bowling coach while Dalton will work with the fast bowlers.
Addressing her retirement from playing, Hartley said: “I have been thinking about it for ages and ages. I’m going to really miss it, I’m going to be really sad but it’s so right. I’ve loved it, I’ve hated it but I am really proud of what I’ve achieved.
“It’s everything that I’ve ever wanted to do. I’m gutted I didn’t play Test cricket but I’m one of those where if you’re not good enough then you’re not good enough.”
