England cricketer ‘out for a f***’ in hilarious gaffe during South Africa defeat

An England cricketer was caught "out for a f***" in a hilarious BBC gaffe during the defeat to South Africa.

Thursday's second Twenty20 international at Cardiff ended with the visitors emerging as victors by 58 runs to tie the three-match series at 1-1. The victory was secured after Richard Gleeson was caught by Quinton de Kock off the bowling of Lungi Ndidi to leave England all out after just 16.4 overs.

With Gleeson out for a duck, the BBC's live blog attempted to include that detail in their report of the wicket but fell foul to an unfortunate error.

One cricket fan spotted the mistake and soon tweeted a screenshot of the blog entry, writing: “Any subs working at the Beeb? Might want to check this…”

The image of the blog below showed it read: “A brilliant review as Gleeson departs for a f***. South Africa win by 58 runs in a pretty dominant performance.”

Twitter users were quick to react to the slip-up with one replying: "Caught for a f*** by de Kock." Another added: "Where's autocorrect when you need it?"

A third fan also commented: "It might not have been with the bat, but he still managed to score." With another tweeting: "Never been as lucky as Gleeson has been tonight."

34-year-old Lancashire bowler Gleeson only made his international debut earlier this month in the second T20 international against India at Edgbaston but was unable to stop England losing the series 2-1.

England will look to avoid another series defeat on Sunday in the final T20 international against South Africa at the Ageas Bowl. The two sides could not be separated in their three-match ODI series earlier this month.

South Africa's tour will continue in August and September as they play three Test matches at Lord's, Old Trafford and the Oval.
