Donald Trump mocked for "embarrassing" statement on 100% true hole-in-one

Donald Trump’s claim that he hit a hole-in-one has been brutally mocked after the former US President took the bizarre step of releasing a statement to try and lend credibility to his sporting achievement.

Trump has taken a step back from the public eye after losing the 2020 US election to Joe Biden. But the ex-President appears to be spending his time on the golf course, which is know to be one of his favourite pastimes.

The 75-year-old caused a stir on social media over the weekend when members of his entourage shared pictures and videos which claimed Trump had sunk a hole-in-one while playing in Florida. Understandably, given his reputation as the“world’s worst cheat”at golf and the fact he didn't actually see the ball enter the hole, not many people were buying it.

So, in true Trump style, the 45th President of the United States has issued a lengthy statement to back up his claims. In his words, the feat came while playing alongside four-time Major winner Ernie Els, as well as golfers Gene Sauers, Ken Duke and Mike Goodes, at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“Many people are asking, so I’ll give it to you now, it’s 100% true,” the statement begins. "It took place … on the 7th hole, which was playing 181-yards into a slight wind. I hit a 5-iron, which sailed magnificently into a rather strong wind, with approximately 5 feet of cut, whereupon it bounced twice and then went clank, into the hole.

"These great tour players noticed it before I did because their eyes are slightly better, but on that one hole only, their swings weren’t. Anyway, there’s a lot of chatter about it, quite exciting, and people everywhere seem to be asking for the facts. Playing with that group of wonderful, talented players was a lot of fun.

“The match was Ernie and me (with no strokes) against Gene, Mike and Ken. I won’t tell you who won because I am a very modest individual, and you will then say I was bragging – and I don’t like people who brag!”

It’s fair to say that people are not convinced by his elaborate and strangely-written story. “This is the most hilarious thing I've read in days,” wrote one commenter on Twitter. “The Trumpiest Trump statement ever,” added another.

“Most nauseating humble brag ever. From the biggest cheater in all of golf,” wrote one unimpressed user. “Even Stephen King couldn’t have written something so fantastical,” joked another. “This is just embarrassing,” concluded one commenter bluntly.
