Djokovic ‘outdone by child’ with brilliant shot in Australian Open warm-up match

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios put on a great exhibition during a warm-up match ahead of this year's Australian Open.

Kyrgios ultimately claimed victory over Djokovic in the event, which sold out in just 58 minutes and will see all proceeds go to charity. However, the result mattered little as the pair thoroughly entertained the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena with their antics.

The pair were joined by two ball kids for the match tie-break and began comically grunting as they shared a rally. Djokovic then looked to involve the kids as he hit a tame shot to the one partnering Kyrgios, allowing the youngster to hit the winning match point.

Another wrote: "Well that was extremely wholesome viewing living for it". While a third added: "This was so much fun to watch. I loved this."

Djokovic was delighted to receive such a warm welcome from the crowd as he made his first on court appearance in Melbourne since getting deported last year amid a row over his Covid vaccination status.
