Cricket star hits 205 runs in an innings with all but five coming in boundaries

West Indies cricket star Rahkeem Cornwall wasted no time or energy in smashing a remarkable unbeaten double century in Atlanta.

Cornwall made a mockery of the Atlanta Open, a US-based T20 cricket league, by thrashing 205 not out in 77 balls as his franchise Atlanta Fire posted an almost absurd 326/1 from their 20 overs.

But what made Cornwall's feat most impressive was that he barely broke stride – he ran just five of his 205 runs against humbled opposition 'Square Drive'. His brutal knock included 22 sixes and 17 further boundaries, providing the ultimate 'stand and deliver' innings in a wonderful display of ball-striking.

Cornwall required a single off his last ball to reach the double-ton landmark – but unsurprisingly thrashed his 22nd six to bring up the achievement in style.

The innings beats the T20 record knock of 'Universe Boss' and fellow West Indian star Chris Gayle, who struck 175 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League in 2013.

But unfortunately for Cornwall, his efforts will not go down in the history books as the Atlanta Open is not recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as an official tournament. At 6'5" and 140kg, Cornwall is among the heaviest cricketers ever and has been a regular fixture in the West Indies test team.

Nicknamed 'Jimbo', the 29-year-old has never played an international limited-overs game but is now knocking on the door to break into the West Indies T20 side. West Indies star Jason Holder had reservations over Cornwall's size but has now been convinced that he can become a star of the short-form international game.

"I look at somebody like Jimbo and despite his size – yes, he has got his restrictions – I think there is a role for him in international cricket," Holder said last month. I was probably one of those persons who were probably blindsided by his size and probably his mobility.

"But seeing year on year, what he does and seeing how dynamic this version of the game [T20 cricket] has become and how specific you got to be in terms of particular points of the game, I strongly believe that Jimbo can play international cricket at this level."
