Bucks, Connaughton agree to 3-year extension

Milwaukee Bucks guard Pat Connaughton has agreed on a three-year, $28.5 million extension with a player option, his agents, Jeff Schwartz and Jordan Gertler of Excel Basketball, told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Tuesday.

Connaughton’s total deal is now four years and $34 million.

He had previously exercised his option to return for the 2022-23 season.

A 2015 second-round pick out of Notre Dame, Connaughton became a staple of the Bucks’ rotation as the team evolved into a contender the past few seasons.

Connaughton, 29, enjoyed his best season this past year, posting career highs in points (9.5), minutes (26.5) and 3-point percentage (39.5%). After missing a month of the season due to a hand injury, Connaughton returned for the stretch run and helped an injured Milwaukee team advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Connaughton has become an improved shooter over the past two seasons, shooting 45% on corner 3s last season while upping his 3-point attempts to nearly six per game. Standing at 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, he has also shown to be a strong, versatile defender.
