Tom Brady has made a swift U-turn after angering fans of the New England Patriots with his statement as he announced his retirement on Tuesday.
The seven-time Super Bowl winner confirmed on Tuesday that he was ending his playing career after 22 years in the NFL with a lengthy post on social media.
However, there was no mention of the Patriots in his 964-word statement, despite him spending two decades with the franchise after they drafted him in 2000.
This led to uproar among Patriot fans on social media following his announcement, with Brady labelled an "a**" by those who used to chant his name.
However, Brady has now acknowledged the Patriots and their supporters in a swift U-turn on the back of the backlash he has received.
The 44-year-old shared a statement from Patriots owner Robert Kraft to his Instagram story that had been posted by his old team.
He then wrote: “Thank you Patriots and Patriot Nation. Beyond grateful and love you all.”

This was followed up by him sharing a post from the Patriots along with the caption: "I couldn't have dreamed of a better ride."
Despite this, Brady is still yet to thank his former coach Bill Belichick, who he played under for the entirety of his time in Boston.
Having been selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft, Brady went on to win the first of his six Super Bowls with the franchise in just his second season.
He was named as MVP in four of the nine Super Bowls he played in with the Pats, including his first two.
After 20 years with New England, Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of the 2020 season and went on to win his seventh and final Super Bowl during his first season in Tampa.
The Bucs were knocked out of this year's play-offs in January after they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC divisional play-offs, Brady's final game in the NFL.
