Bellator carnage as wrong scores are read out by announcer before correction

There was a moment of confusion at Bellator 284 when the wrong scores were initially read out for Ilima-Lei Macfarlane's bout with Bruna Ellen.

Macfarlane had missed the weight by three pounds, but Ellen had accepted the bout anyway after an apology from the Hawaiian. Macfarlane survived a guillotine from Ellen before breaking the Brazilian's grip and landing on top of her opponent.

The bout went the distance as judges announced Macfarlane had won via split decision. However, that was soon changed when officials clarified that Macfarlane had indeed won by unanimous decision rather than a split decision.

Speaking after the bout, Macfarlane joked she was worried she would flash the crowd as she wasn't wearing any underwear.

The Hawaiian told John McCarthy after the bout she feared her shorts would come down during a sequence that led to the guillotine from Ellen. She joked it was one of the reasons she was able to escape the hold.

It was Macfarlane's first win since 2019, and she was visibly emotional in her post-bout interview.

Elsewhere on the card, Paige VanZant's husband Austin Vanderford was stunned by unfancied opponent Austin Jeffery.

Jeffery managed to knock down the former middleweight challenger before unloading a barrage of punches on the canvas causing the official to call a stoppage.
