British tennis prodigy Emma Raducanu has banked £181,000 – more than six times her entire career earnings – as her fairytale run at this years Wimbledon continues into the last 16.
Four days in 2021, Raducanu took to Twitter to ask a simple question: "So are A-Levels happening?"
Fast forward to the summer, and the youngster has dumped out Sorana Cirstea – who ranks 45th on the WTA Tour – in convincing fashion: beating the Romanian in under two hours.
The 18-year-old, who is still waiting on her A-Level results, was unfazed by the bright lights of Court 1 – as the story of the summer rumbles on.
Raducanu banked £181,000 when Cirstea's cross-court shot hit the net – sparking a roar that has been alien to sporting events for the better part of the past year.
The Brit's career earnings, before her appearance at SW19, amassed to $33,000, and she had only earned $3,600 this year.
However, that all seems a distant memory for the youngster now, and Ajla Tomljanovic stands between her and a £300,000 pay-day.
Virginia Wade was the last British female to claim the Women's Singles title at Wimbledon, and the UK looks to have its latest great hope in Raducanu.
