There are growing calls from UFC supporters to boycott the sport after the brand announced a new major sponsorship deal with Bud Light.

The brewer was formerly the number one best-selling beer across the country but has since lost that ranking after partnering with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney in April.

UFC’s multi-year deal with Bud Light is reportedly worth over £87million-per-year and see’s the two organisations reunite with each other after Anheuser-Busch and Bud Light were the sport’s original beer sponsors more than a decade ago.

However, the renewed partnership has sparked outrage from some sections of the UFC’s dedicated community who believe Bud Light is trying to regain their previous reputation by returning to the sport.

Bud Light’s investment will give the company significant presence in the octagon with their branding dominating a large part of the floorspace while also being used on other sponsorship material.

Bud Light has seen it’s reputation affected after a previous sponsorship deal with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney

However, the fallout from the brewer’s previous partnership with Mulvaney has caused evident irreversible damage with some fans that are now threatening to boycott the sport as a result.

Slamming the sponsorship announcement on X – formerly Twitter – one critic said: ‘I have been a loyal 30 year fan since UFC1 but in 2024 I will no longer watch or purchase UFC events. The deal with Bud Light is a deal breaker for me.’

Another unimpressed viewer added: ‘UFC⁩ announces Bud Light as its official beer in partnership with Anheuser-Busch. #BoycottUFC Go Woke Go Broke.’

A third comment also gave their view, stating: ‘How unfortunate I have to #BoycottUFC now. No more #ppv UFC and Dana White and have lost my money and viewership.’

While another supporter also fumed: People it looks like it’s time to #BOYCOTT UFC and keep boycotting Bud Light!’

The beverage organisation has been damaged by their previous campaign with Mulvaney after they were accused of meddling in one of the most hot-button culture war issues there is.

Modelo and Coors have surpassed Bud Light in the top-selling beer charts and recent data showed their share of the beer market had dropped to just 8.9 per cent.

Sales have declined by around 30 percent in both volume and dollar value compared to the same period last year.

In a statement announcing the partnership, UFC CEO Dana White said: ‘Anheuser-Busch and Bud Light were UFC’s original beer sponsors more than fifteen years ago. I’m proud to announce we are back in business together.

‘There are many reasons why I chose to go with Anheuser-Busch and Bud Light, most importantly because I feel we are very aligned when it comes to our core values and what the UFC brand stands for.

‘I’m looking forward to all of the incredible things we will do in the years ahead.’

Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth said: ‘Anheuser-Busch and Bud Light have always been on the cutting edge of iconic sporting moments that fans remember forever, and reuniting with UFC is a continuation of this industry leading legacy.’
