Conor McGregor has labelled Floyd Mayweather’s altercation with Jake Paul ’embarrassing’ and ‘sad’ as the UFC star called on his former rival to ‘fight someone for real’.

Mayweather, 44, will return from boxing retirement on June 6 when he meets no-mark Logan Paul in the ring in Miami, but it was the younger brother who left the undefeated legend of the sport spoiling for a fight.

Jake, 24, squared up to the boxing great at the pre-fight press conference and stole Mayweather’s cap, spinning the five-weight champion into a rage as bedlam ensued.

‘Don’t disrespect me like that, you don’t know who you’re f*****g playing with!’ Mayweather was heard saying amid the chaos. ‘I’m gonna kill that motherf*****, when I catch you. Are you crazy? You don’t know who you’re f*****g playing with.’

Chaos unfolded after the YouTuber stole the boxing great’s cap at a press conference in Miami

McGregor, who shared the ring with Mayweather in a mega-money bout in August 2017, has responded to the bust-up, calling on the American’s manager, Leonard Ellerbe, to help the 44-year-old steer clear of the internet stars.

‘Hey @leonardellerbe, what the f*** is Floyd at?’ McGregor wrote in an Instagram post. ‘The kid [Paul] curled up, didn’t fight back once, and Floyd is still running around acting the tough guy.

‘The kid actually just pulled this shambles of a situation Floyd is in out of the drain for him. He should thank him.’

The Irishman added that Mayweather’s upcoming fight with Logan is ’embarrassing’ and ‘sad’, and that the all-time great would make more money fighting a pro than the social media influencers.

‘It’s embarrassing! Pro to pro it’s embarrassing,’ he said. ‘He will not scratch 10m for this fight and he knows it.

‘It was cancelled once already. The world is watching this on Twitter. He’d fight a half decent pro and command 20m upwards, yet its [sic] this s***.

‘Whatever way you spin this, it’s sad. Fight someone for real, on your record, or f*** off mate. Slap head!’

Logan Paul has fought once professionally, losing to fellow YouTuber KSI in November 2019

Jake Paul has three wins, all against non-boxers, including former MMA star Ben Askren

The post was accompanied by a photograph of McGregor manhandling Mayweather’s head during their London press conference in 2017, with Ellerbe sat next to the American.

Jake Paul now has three professional boxing fights to his record with three victories, after defeating fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and former NBA star Nate Robinson before beating retired MMA star Ben Askren.

His brother Logan Paul, who will step inside the ring with Mayweather in just over four weeks, has one professional fight to his name against fellow YouTuber KSI, which he lost.

McGregor has since returned to the UFC following his huge payday against Mayweather, winning one of his three fights in the octagon. The Irishman most recently lost to Dustin Poirier in January and will rematch The Diamond on July 10.
