Jorge Masvidal shows off incredible body transformation as he looks ripped on the scales at 170lbs ahead of Kamaru Usman showdown after needing a TOWEL to make weight on Fight Island last year

  • Jorge Masvidal had just six days’ notice before facing Kamaru Usman in 2020
  • The 36-year-old had to shred 20lbs just to make the weight limit in July last year
  • But now he appeared in optimum condition ahead of UFC 261 in Jacksonville

Jorge Masvidal showed off his mind-blowing body transformation after weighing in at 170lbs ahead of his UFC 261 rematch with Kamaru Usman.

The duo first faced each other in July last year, with the Nigerian easing to a decision victory on Fight Island at UFC 251, retaining his welterweight title in the process.

But Miami-native Masvidal was given just six days to prepare and had to shred some 20lbs just to ensure that he made the weight limit in Abu Dhabi.

‘Gamebread’ appeared in optimum condition in Jacksonville as he weighed in at 170lbs

It meant that ahead of the pair’s first fight, the 36-year-old required a towel in front of him just to make weight, but told UFC President Dana White after his loss he felt he could defeat Usman given another chance in the octagon.

But ‘Gamebread’ looks to have backed up his optimism by appearing in optimum condition as he weighed in at an excellent 170lbs nearly a year on from his defeat, looking far more ripped than he did in the summer of last year.

Masvidal will compete in his 50th professional MMA bout in Jacksonville in the early hours of Sunday morning, and insisted should he win, he would be in favour of a trilogy fight.

Asked if he would return the favour of a rematch granted by Usman, 33, this time, he said at his pre-fight press conference: ‘Definitely, he gave me a chance.

It comes nearly a year after he needed a towel just to make the weight at UFC 251 in July

‘Whether we see eye-to-eye on things or not, he gave me another chance to compete, so I’ll definitely give him the chance to compete again.’

The Miami-based knockout artist also believes that, with a full camp behind him and having spent a full five rounds in the octagon with Usman, he is well-placed to end his 13-fight winning streak and win gold in front of returning fans in Jacksonville.

The pair also engaged in a verbal exchange after Masvidal vowed to deliver ‘violence’ for the 15,000 spectators in his home state of Florida, before Usman reminded his rival that the fans cannot fight for him.

‘These guys want violence and let me tell you they don’t cheer for me because I look so good, I come in here to perform and bring them and bring the violence that they crave. That is the reason I have these fans here for me,’ Masvidal said.

‘Alright let’s just be honest here. You have got 14 losses in your career. Seven in the UFC. You are 3-3 in your last six. You are sitting there today because I chose you. I am coming around the track and you are the first guy I am about to lap,’ Usman hit back.

Usman is aiming to eclipse Georges St-Pierre’s tally of 13 consecutive UFC wins when he faces Masvidal.

But Masvidal believes with a full camp behind him he can end Usman’s winning streak
