Jorge Masvidal calls Nate Diaz a 'borderline vegetable' after UFC exit

‘The guy’s a borderline vegetable!’: Jorge Masvidal claims former rival Nate Diaz made the right decision to leave the UFC as he was at risk of suffering ‘serious brain damage’ if he’d stayed in the ‘big leagues’

UFC star Jorge Masvidal has claimed Nate Diaz was right to walk away from the UFC before he suffered ‘serious brain damage’.

Diaz beat fellow veteran Tony Ferguson via fourth-round submission last month, and is now a free agent after his UFC contract expired.

Masvidal thinks Diaz has been showing signs that he is slowing down, and has chosen the right time to move away from MMA’s premier organisation.

Jorge Masvidal thinks Diaz was right to leave the UFC as he is a ‘borderline vegetable’

‘That’s good for him to leave the big leagues before he gets serious brain damage,’ Masvidal told MMA Fighting.

‘I think the guy’s a borderline vegetable. His interviews, his spunkness, his wittiness and sharpness has gone to s***. You have to wait for him, the pauses have gotten longer.’

‘You used to ask him a question, it used to be like a two-second pause — now it’s like a 30-second pause.’

Diaz became a popular figure with UFC fans after his two fights with Conor McGregor in 2016 which saw the American win their first meeting before the Irish southpaw gained revenge five months later.

He also shared the Octagon with Masvidal in 2019 when the pair battled for the ‘BMF’ title.

Masvidal emerged victorious from that contest, and both men showed respect for one another afterwards.

However, he has now admitted that he doesn’t have a lot of time for Diaz and is not sorry to see him leave the UFC.

‘He shouldn’t be in the big leagues, he’s going to get hurt, man,’ Masvidal added.

‘Take that old a** dude somewhere else. Plus, I almost killed his a** until the referee saved him. I don’t really like him too much.’

Diaz has moved on from the UFC but his fighting days may not be over just yet.

He has been linked with a boxing match against Jake Paul who is set to fight another UFC legend in Anderson Silva on Saturday night.
