Jon Jones says that a fight with Tom Aspinall 'sounds good'

Jon Jones says that a fight with Tom Aspinall ‘sounds good’ after Brit said it would be his ‘dream’ to fight him after incredible 73 second KO win

  • England’s Aspinall stormed to a first-round victory in UFC London’s main event
  • The heavyweight delivered a brutal TKO during his bout with Marcin Tybura
  • He later called out UFC legend Jon Jones during his post-fight interview

Jon Jones has indicated that he is open to a fight with Tom Aspinall after the Brit said it would be his dream to fight him following his stunning win at UFC London.

Aspinall gave the English fans what they were hoping for as he finished Marcin Tybura in just one minute and 13 seconds at the O2 Arena.

The heavyweight showed off his stand up skills as he overpowered his Polish opponent and quickly made it clear that a bout with Jones is his ultimate goal.

‘I’m gonna go to Paris, I’m gonna sit in the front row and see Cyril Gane vs. Serghei Spivak, I’m gonna beat the winner & then I’m gonna beat Jon Jones,’ he said.

Jones is the current heavyweight champion and is widely regarded by many as the greatest of all time.

Tom Aspinall produced a statement performance and stated his intention to fight Jon Jones

American Jones quickly responded with a Tweet, just moments after the bout ended, and suggested that a fight with Aspinall ‘sounds good’.

And, during the post-fight press conference, Aspinall insisted that a bout with Jones would be the pinnacle of his career.

‘Jon Jones knows I exist… woo hoo! That’s a win in itself. I’ve been saying it all week that another goal of mine is to motivate Jon to stick around and fight me.

‘It’s a dream fight of mine and I think I match-up well against him. I’m young and fresh. I’m big. I can do everything well.

‘I’m fast, strong and heavy. I just think I bring something different to him. I think he knows that as well.’

While a fight with Jones might be what Aspinall wants, he’ll have to wait until the American faces Stipe Miocic in a fight for the heavyweight belt at UFC 295.

Jones, the current heavyweight champion, has said that he is open to a fight with Aspinall

Instead, he’s targeting a fight with the winner of Gane vs Spivac in September, despite the availability of Sergei Pavlovich promising heavyweight.

‘I’m easy mate,’ he said. ‘Throw me in with anybody. I just think that fight makes sense.

‘I’ve been matched up with Pavlovich two times before and both times he’s pulled out. I’m not saying he’s scared of me but that’s just what happened.’
