'I've never begged for anything': Masvidal hits back at Leon Edwards

‘Accept this payday and get your face broken’: Jorge Masvidal insists Leon Edwards grudge match is ‘no-brainer’ after British UFC champion told rival to ‘get on his knees and beg’ for title shot

Jorge Masvidal has bitten back at Leon Edwards after the British UFC star told him to ‘get on his knees and beg’ for a title shot.

Edwards stunned Kamaru Usman with a late headkick KO to win the welterweight title last month and ‘Gamebred’ is pushing for a fight with him.

‘Rocky’ is enjoying the newfound power he wields, having chased a fight with Masvidal himself to no avail before he went on to lift the title.

Leon Edwards knocked Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal is chasing a fight with him

Masvidal has lost his last three but feels he still deserves a shot at the belt

He posted: ‘Refer to me as ‘Mr Edwards’ or ‘Sir’ and get on your knees and beg and I may consider it.’

Masvidal hit back on Twitter, writing: ‘I’ve never got on my knees and begged anyone for anything.

‘If your lifestyle is to get on your knees for stuff that’s on you, I’m not judging. Accept the fight, get this payday, get your rematch and get your face broken at the same time. It’s a no-brainer dummy.’

The American, who has lost his last three fights, previously reignited his feud with Edwards in speaking to MMA Fighting when he said: ‘I definitely feel like I deserve it. I definitely seen just from the money side we deserve it, I seen from the fan side we deserve it. Who doesn’t want to see me fight Leon?

‘They may say I don’t deserve it but they would still raise their hands and say ‘I want to watch that fight and I’ll pay my hard earned money to go see that fight. So, I don’t agree with that.

‘There was a story there,’ Masvidal added. ‘If that had a story, this has a f***ing movie between me and what’s-his-face, that English f***.

‘So why not give the fans what they want? If I didn’t deserve it and fans didn’t want it, why is it that every time I talk to a reporter or anybody, they’re always talking about this. Why aren’t they talking about anything else? It’s always me against Leon in England.

‘Leon, step up to the plate, bro. You begged and cried and did all this bulls— before when I was fighting for the title. Now you got the belt, lets go!

Usman will have his chance at revenge  against Edwards in their slated trilogy bout

‘And I never dodged the f—,’ he added ‘Because when I wasn’t fighting Leon I was fighting the guy that had the belt. And after that I fought the guy was number one, so… if Leon wants it I’m here, but if he’d rather be, I don’t know, drinking tea, eating fish and chips and s—, I dunno.’

While the fight would appeal to the UFC from a pay-per-view perspective, Masvidal is unlikely to be granted a title shot until he bounces back to winning ways.

Edwards and Usman are expected to face off for a third time in March next year on home turf for the champion.
