Edson Barboza picked up a spectacular knockout win over Billy Quarantillo on Saturday night to return to winning ways in the UFC.

Heading into Saturday’s fight Barboza had lost his previous two contests and desperately needed a win to breathe new life into his career.

It did not take him long to make a statement as he landed a devastating knee to his opponent’s jaw just over halfway through the first round.

Having been backed up to the side of the cage, Barboza waited for Quarantillo to over-commit and timed his fight-ending shot to perfection. Quarantillo fell face first to the canvas, causing the referee to jump in quickly to prevent him taking any further damage.

It was a trademark knee from Barboza who has become known for his incredible knockout power inside the Octagon.

Saturday’s finish was the 14th knockout of his MMA career and improves his overall record to 23-11.

Barboza has mixed at the highest level in the UFC for a number of years, but has often fallen short when taking on the very best in the sport.

The 37-year-old has defeats on his record to ex-lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone.

He had not fought in over a year prior to facing Quarantillo on Saturday night, and another loss would have left his career at a crossroads.

However, he delivered a stunning performance to offer a reminder that he still has plenty to offer and that his power has not diminished yet.
