Conor McGregor explains what he noticed during Dustin Poirier staredown

Conor McGregor believes he saw "fragility" in Dustin Poirier when they faced off last night at the UFC 264 press conference.

The pair hadn't seen one another since their rematch in January, when Poirier brutally stopped the Irishman in the second round.

And when asked what he saw during their heated face-off, McGregor said simply: "Fragility".

Both men tried to come out on top in the verbal warfare last night, and despite a particularly aggressive McGregor showing, it seems the American was largely unaffected by what happened.

There were jabs about his wife Jolie, as well as a number of comments regarding his background and hometown, and at times it did seem like Poirier may be rattled.

But he generally was able to keep his composure, despite President Dana White's concerns on the main podium standing between them.

"You're getting walked like a dog in that octagon," McGregor said in a vicious rant towards Poirier in front of a crowd of thousands in Vegas.

"This is my bread and butter, this is what wakes me up in the morning with fire in my belly," he added. "Errors to correct, tactics to prepare for, I've had a great camp and a great focus on the opponent.

"I'm going to go through his head, put holes in it and take it off his shoulders. He's done here, this is it for him, it's the end of the road.

"Saturday night he's getting walked around that octagon like a dog and put to sleep.

"This will be beautiful, it will be another feather in the cap, it's what I love to do. I love to come in here, defy the odds, do the unthinkable and put on a show."

But Poirier had a few jabs of his own on the night, mocking his rival's fitness program 'McGregor FAST', telling him on Saturday night that he'd be using the 'McGregor SLEEP' program, and reiterating that he had in fact won the last fight.

Prior to the pair's first meeting, Poirier infamously let slip that he had never disliked an opponent more than McGregor, and has admitted the Irishman was in his head.

But he appeared mostly composed, and it was actually McGregor who almost made things physical in the heated staredown following the questions portion of the event.

The Irishman also compared Poirier to Buster Douglas, who famously upset Mike Tyson to win the world heavyweight boxing title in early 1990.

McGregor claimed that once he stops his opponent on Saturday night, his legacy will boil down to being someone who pulled off a shock win over Conor McGregor.

"I don't give a f*** about him to be honest," McGregor told the press at the event. "I don't give a rat's a** about him.

"He's Buster Douglas is what he is, and that's the way he's gonna go down – he's going to be known for that.

"It was a fluke win and I'm going to correct it on Saturday night."
