Free agent Trevor Bauer agrees to deal with Los Angeles Dodgers

Free agent pitcher Trevor Bauer will join the Los Angeles Dodgers, the reigning NL Cy Young winner announced Friday.

Bauer shared a video on his social media channels revealing his decision to sign with the World Series champions on a three-year deal worth $102 million with opt-outs after the first two seasons. The contract pays him $40 million in 2021 and $45 million in 2021.

It's a return home for the 30-year-old Bauer, who grew up in Southern California and went to UCLA.

After a stellar shortened 2020 campaign with the Cincinnati Reds, the right-hander entered the free agent market as one of the most highly sought-after starters.

He led the NL in ERA (1.73), hits per nine innings (5.1) and adjusted ERA (276) in 11 starts and was a big reason why the Reds earned their first trip to the postseason in seven years. He also became the first Cy Young winner to reach the free-agent market in the same year since Greg Maddux in 1992.

With Bauer, the Dodgers may have the best pitching staff in baseball. Their stable of starters features fellow Cy Young winners in Clayton Kershaw and David Price, as well as Walker Buehler, Julio Urias, Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin.

Los Angeles has won eight consecutive NL West titles and is now coming off its first world championship since 1988.
