Waterhouse-Bott juvenile to jump from barrier five as key rivals draw wide

JJ Atkins Stakes favourite Converge saw his Group 1 aspirations further boosted with a superior draw to his main rivals for the $1m Eagle Farm feature.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained youngster remains the $3.50 favourite with TAB fixed odds after he was allocated gate five in Tuesday’s barrier draw.

His main rivals Tiger Of Malay (barrier 11) and Port Louis (barrier 13) will both jump from wide gates in a final field of 14 juveniles.

Tiger Of Malay was the first horse home of the trio in the $1 million BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes last month when beating the fast finishing Converge and Ciaron Maher and David Eustace’s Port Louis.

Hugh Bowman rides Port Louis and a win would provide the star jockey with 100 Group 1 wins for his career.

Tulloch Lodge will launch a two-pronged attack in the final juvenile Group 1 of the season with last Saturday’s The Phoenix winner Volcanic Rock taking on the seven day back up.

Chris Waller will also have Cape Breton a short turnaround from Rosehill last weekend as part of a three-way assault with Ranch Hand and Giannis.

Edward Cummings broke through for a maiden Group 1 triumph last Saturday when Duais won the Queensland Oaks and will have two starters in the JJ Atkins – Dark Rebel and Three Wise Men.
