Wagga SDRA Country Championships runner-by-runner analysis

The SDRA Country Championships Qualifier looks a wide open race with numerous winning chances and the good track should give all runners their chance.

We’ve analysed the form for the important race and given an assessment of each horses chances and if we believe they can win or simply fill a placing.

1 – THE DOCTOR’S SON

Resumes from a 14 week break after finishing 2-1/2 lengths from Regal Stage in the Snake Gully Cup. Has run well first-up over 1400m previously and can do so again.

Can he win? NO Can he place? YES

2 – OAMANIKKA

Finished strongly for second behind Madam Superior last start and will improve stepping back out to 1400m. Blinkers go on for the first time and while he’s drawn unfavourably in barrier 14, Blaike McDougall rides Wagga better than anyone and should give Oamanikka every chance.

Can he win? YES Can he place? YES

3 – HALO WARRIOR

Knuckled down to win last time and will be suited by the hot tempo in this. That was his first go over 1400m, so he’ll be improved for having the run under his belt but he could get caught in a tricky position from barrier three. Hard to knock a horse that has won three from four this campaign.

Can he win? NO Can he place? YES

4 – ANOTHER ONE

He was disappointing last start when seeming to have every chance but could only manage sixth behind Katgully Red. He is a bit hit or miss but if he does bounce back, Another One is certainly one of the main hopes and his record at the track is great – I just couldn’t launch in at the short odds.

Can he win? YES Can he place? YES

5 – BLITZAR

Really like the way he hit the line last time out in the Preview here behind Lady Brook. He’ll be at peak fitness for this and will appreciate the fast tempo up front plus the step out to 1400m. Think Blitzar is a good each-way investment.

Can he win? YES Can he place? YES

6 – MNEMMENTH

Thought his run behind Katgully Red last time out was great. Mnemmenth was posted four wide without cover for the majority of the trip but still clocked the quickest 800-200m sectional of the race. Did beat the favourite Another One on that day, yet you are getting a much juicier price at $9.

Can he win? YES Can he place? YES

7 – BAUTISTA

He’s never won over a trip further than 1175m so tackling 1400m first-up off one trial looks ambitious.

Can he win? NO Can he place? NO

8 – GOTTALUVTRUCKS

Was a winner earlier in the preparation but that was in Benchmark 50 grade and he would have to improve lengths to be competitive in this.

Can he win? NO Can he place? NO

9 – TOCATCHACOD

Rarely wins but is always in the finish and it wouldn’t surprise to see him jag a place at big odds here. Did finish a narrow second to the second favourite Oamanikka at this track last preparation but he is a query over 1400m.

Can he win? NO Can he place? YES

10 – SIZZLING CAT

Broke his maiden at his final run before a spell and didn’t look great in a recent trial at the track. Not in this.

Can he win? NO Can he place? NO

11 – PREVISO

Finished strongly to finish midfield last time out but this is a big rise in class.

Can he win? NO Can he place? NO

12 – NICOTERA

Makes his own luck out in front and gives his all. Will improve for having the first-up run under his belt and does drop 6kg in weight. Don’t think he can win but he’ll run better than his price suggests.

Can he win? NO Can he place? NO

13 – LADY BROOK

Led for an all the way win in the Preview here and she does get in well at the weights. Lady Brook will have to do some work to find the front in this, which could make her vulnerable late but her best is good enough to win.

Can she win? YES Can she place? YES

14 – YOUSAY BOLT

Hard to back her first-up after finishing eight lengths from the winner last time out.

Can she win? NO Can she place? NO

15 – TAKISSACOD

Just battled over the final 200m last start and think she’ll struggle to handle the rise in grade.

Can she win? NO Can she place? NO

MY TIPS

1st – BLITZAR (No. 5)
2nd – LADY BROOK (No. 13)

3rd – MNEMMENTH (No. 6)

4th – ANOTHER ONE (No. 4)
