WA mare Fabergino out to notch another Flemington win in extended Victorian stay
It’s almost getting to the stage where Victorians could claim Fabergino as one of their own.
The WA mare has spent five months in Victoria, campaigning through the spring before she was forced to stick around as travelling back to Perth became difficult in these COVID times.
Fabergino also broke her trainer Tiarnna Robertson’s leg when she kicked out during the spring, giving the trainer a spell in hospital
But Fabergino has also paid her way in Victoria, earning more than $140,000 from her four runs but the six-year-old will be on the hunt for more local cash in Saturday’s Listed Kensington Stakes.
Robertson said Fabergino was happy at her Mornington Peninsula base and showing no sign of being homesick for her WA stable.
“She thinks she’s home and she’s really happy here,” Robertson said.
“I think if you find an environment where they’re happy, which she seems to be down here, they can stay for a long time.
“She’s really happy. She’s eating well and she looks fantastic.”

Fabergino carried 61.5kg to victory over 1000m specialist Prezado at her last run on December 12 but drops to 60kg for her latest target.
Robertson said the weight drop and the 1000m trip were two significant factors in Fabergino’s favour in the Kensington Stakes.
“I can’t fault her and I think Saturday’s race is good race for her,” Robertson said.
“She’s an out-and-out 1000m horse whereas most of these horses are probably starting off at 1000(m) or coming back to the 1000(m).
“She loves Flemington and she’s going to get conditions to suit with a nice dry week and a firm fast track for her.”
Fabergino is a $3.90 favourite to post her 11th win in 17 starts and third in four runs at Flemington.
Fabergino holds the top spot in TAB’s early market despite meeting Prezado 1.5kg worse for beating him three-quarters of a length on December 12.
Prezado is a $4.80 third pick behind the Godolphin runner Pandemic in Kensington Stakes betting.
