Tye Angland enjoying his new role as a jockey manager

Tye Angland has only been a jockey manager for a handful of days but already he’s enjoying his latest challenge.

The former star jockey, who’s career was cut short due to serious injuries he suffered in a Hong Kong race fall in November 2018.

Angland was left a quadriplegic after the fall but has inspired many with his post-racing career journey which includes some work in the media.

Last Saturday, Angland took over the managing duties of Sydney rider Josh Parr and he wasted no time getting into his new role.

“So far so good, I’m really enjoying it,” Angland said.

“I’ve touched base with a few trainers, and everyone has been great.

“I’ve managed to get him a couple of rides.

“The first one I found for him was on Saturday. I was watching the races at Gosford and it should have won. A horse of Gerald’s, a staying horse called Oceanic Flash and it’s going to Hawkesbury on Monday week.

Angland said while it’s only early days and there’s plenty to learn, he’s enjoying his latest challenge and looking to the future he could see himself expanding in time.

“I just need to get my head around all the weights and allowances again but I’m getting there,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the results. You find a ride and then they win on it, I remember how much my managers got a kick out of it.

“Down the track I’d probably look at getting another rider or two but right now one’s plenty.

“It’s just good to be a part of it again.”
