TAB secures emerging sprinter Lost And Running for The Everest
Sydney’s exciting sprinter Lost And Running has become the fourth horse into the field for the $15m The TAB Everest.
Slot-holder TAB announced on Wednesday it has secured Lost And Running as its representative for The Everest, run at Royal Randwick on October 16.
Lost And Running joins Nature Strip (slot-holder Chris Waller Racing) and Masked Crusader (Max Whitby, Neil Werrett and Col Madden) as confirmed The Everest starters.
Defending champion Classique Legend has returned from a forgettable Hong Kong sojourn and is back at trainer Les Bridge’s Randwick stables.
The dynamic grey is certain to be selected in owner Bon Ho’s Everest slot.
This leaves eight slots still to be filled for the world’s richest turf race.
Lost And Running, trained by John O’Shea, has had only seven starts for six wins and a close second.
He demonstrated his emerging sprinting talent with a dynamic win in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes at Rosehill last month.
O’Shea is a student of racing history and revealed Lost And Running’s entire autumn campaign was designed around the Luskin Star Stakes.
“Historically speaking, if you win this race you usually run well in an Everest, irrespective of the form,’’ O’Shea said after Lost And Running’s breakthrough stakes win.
“He ticks a lot of boxes, he gets through wet ground, he takes a position, he loves Randwick so he’s the progressive horse on the way up.’’

In three of the four runnings of The Everest, the Luskin Star Stakes winner has made the field for the rich Randwick sprint later that year – Clearly Innocent (2017), Osborne Bulls (2018) and Trekking (2018).
Godolphin duo Osborne Bulls (third to Redzel) and Trekking (third to Yes Yes Yes) were both placed in The Everest.
Lost And Running is rated on the fourth line of TAB fixed odds betting at $11 for The TAB Everest with Nature Strip $4.50 favourite.
Tabcorp Managing Director Wagering and Media, Adam Rytenskild said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of Australia’s most exciting sprinter (Lost And Running) for what has rapidly risen to become the world’s richest and most competitive sprint race.
“TAB is proud to have been associated with the Everest since the first running and think we have secured the right horse to win it. We look forward to sharing the ride with our customers as we count down to the big race at Randwick on October 16.”
O’Shea said he was “honoured to be partnering with TAB for this year’s TAB Everest.”
“TAB is the lifeblood of our industry, so you feel as if you’re giving something back to an organisation that effectively keeps our industry afloat,’’ O’Shea said.
“Lost And Running is far and away the best sprinter I have trained and the group who own him have owned some serious racehorses over their time, but I’ve never seen a group of people so excited when we announced we’d teamed with TAB for this year’s TAB Everest.”
