Streetcar Stranger ready for big return at Morphettville
David Jolly wants to give classy sprinter Streetcar Stranger the chance to follow in the footsteps of his mum and he hopes the gelding can take an important step towards that goal at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.
Streetcar Stranger will make his return from a spell when he lines up in the Furphy Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m) with Jolly keen to see his son of Stratum lay the platform for a stakes assault second-up.
Jolly believes Streetcar Stanger can be a contender in the Listed Hills Railway Stakes (1100m) at Oakbank next month – a race he won six years ago with his talented four-year-old’s mother Streetcar Isabelle.
“We will see how he goes on Saturday but we will probably look at running him in the stakes race at Oakbank which his mother won,” Jolly said.
“He has performed well in the past and has indicated he is up to it.
“I am really happy with him.”
Streetcar Stranger hasn’t raced since last September but has already been tested in stakes grade during his last preparation.
The four-year-old was runner up at big odds in the Listed Lightning Stakes behind Parlophone on July 25 before winning at Morphettville Parks at his next start and spelling after a second over 1000m at the same track.
“We learnt a bit about him last time,” Jolly said.
“He is the sort of horse that needs a good tempo in his races and probably is a horse that needs a good, fast run race to be a factor.
“If they go steady, he can get up on the chewy a bit so that‘s why we gravitate to races were there is a good tempo.
“He has a good record at the Parks track and they seem to run along at a good clip there.”

Streetcar Stranger is a $3 favourite to score on his return with Paul Gatt aboard.
Jolly also has Swing And Boom ($14) looking to bounce back in the Accolade Wines Class 2 Handicap (1000m) with Jason Holder booked to ride.
The mare finished last in the Listed Matrice Stakes last start but Jolly believes he knows why.
“We think she choked down last start,” he said.
“When we brought her back, we couldn’t find much wrong with her so think that might have been the case.
“We’ve made a couple of gear changes and she jumped out well on Monday so she can bounce back.”
Jolly’s final runner is Bolt I Am ($9.50) and the seven-year-old lines up in the TAB Benchmark 64 Handicap (1250m).
“He has been a bit unlucky his last runs,” Jolly said.
“I think he might be able to get a nice run from that draw, and with some luck, he can be in the finish in the right grade.”
