Star jockey Nash Rawiller told he can’t ride Sweet Deal in Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara
Star jockey Nash Rawiller has been banned from entering Queensland because he went to a doctor at Bondi to have an annual medical check-up for his NSW riding license.
The shattered jockey self-reported that he went to the Local Government Area of Waverley, which is declared a hotspot and from which entry to Queensland is not permitted.
Rawiller lives in a neighbouring jurisdiction but went to his family doctor on Tuesday to have the medical check required to maintain his NSW riders’ license.
Rawiller had been booked on a plane flight from Sydney to Brisbane on Wednesday night but after he self-reported he was told he could not travel across the border.
Queensland chief steward Peter Chadwick was kept informed of developments and Sweet Deal’s trainer John Thompson was informed he would need a new rider for the Tatt’s Tiara.
Sweet Deal, a $13 chance for the Tatt’s Tiara, is set to embark on a new career in the breeding barn after Saturday’s Group 1 at Eagle Farm.

She had been a mare close to Rawiller’s heart, him being her regular rider and giving him an early win back in Australia after he returned from Hong Kong.
Rawiller was planning to take a winter break from riding but has now moved the break forward and plans to have several weeks out of the saddle, starting immediately.
The Rawiller news came as a horde of other leading Sydney jockeys raced to catch planes on Wednesday to beat the 1am Thursday Queensland border lockout of anyone from Sydney.
