Sire of Buffering, Mossman, passes away at age 26

Vinery Stud has announced champion sire Mossman passed away on Friday at age 26.

Mossman, which won the J.J Atkins Stakes for Clarry Conners as a juvenile, was the sire Group 1 winners Buffering, Mossfun, Miss Mossman and Plucky Belle.

He was retired to stud in 2000 where he would go on to sire 41 stakes winners with six of those at Group 1 level. Vinery retired Mossman from stud duties in 2018.

“Mossman has made a massive impact on the Australia industry and played an enormous role in the success of the farm,” Vinery’s General Manager Peter Orton said.

“He will be sadly missed by all those around him, especially our staff who cared so well for him throughout his time here at Vinery.

“Mossman will be laid to rest next to his own sire Success Express, overlooking the stallion area.”

We are incredibly saddened by the passing of our friend and Champion Sire #Mossman on Friday.
He was a true gentleman and was loved by all who were lucky enough to work with him. We’re going to miss you Mossy ? pic.twitter.com/u6DmMctXYE

A sad day. Despite the numbers being against him early he quickly showed what a remarkable stallion he would turn out to be. I feel lucky to have known him for the horse he was, one with a great nurture that people were drawn to for many reasons. RIP old mate. #Mossmanpic.twitter.com/FkCzKWkD5v
