KEMBLA GRANGE

BEST BET

Race 3, No. 8: PIA SOFIA

Racing well without a lot of luck during this preparation. Very fit mare and finds herself in an ideal race and with a good barrier this time.

NEXT BEST

Race 1, No. 9: ROYALZEL

Backed in from $7.50 to start $5.50 on debut at Wyong and although soundly beaten, nothing went right for him and he will have learned a lot from the outing.

VALUE BET

Race 6, No. 7: TONGARIRO

Only won two from 16 so far but one of those wins was first-up and another of them was here at Kembla. Has trialled well this month.

QUADDIE

Race 4: 1,6,8,12

Race 5: 7,8,11

Race 6: 1,7

Race 7: 9,12

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Jean Van Overmeire has a full book of rides with a number of them right in the market including Rocstar Boy, Jimmy’s Dream and Marcassin.

ARMIDALE

BEST BET

Race 2 No. 10: TRUMPED UP

Remains winless after 16 starts but he has placed nine times and has bumped into some really smart maidens in his four NSW outings.

NEXT BEST

Race 6 No. 2: FULL PRESS

Here’s one that is absolutely flying. On his way to a hat trick of Armidale wins and much more after that.

VALUE BET

Race 4 No. 2: BLACK JADE

Was $81 into $61 when she finished an honourable fifth at Tamworth. Progressive filly in an astute yard.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR KEMBLA GRANGE

RACE 1

Royalzel $7.50 into $5.50 on debut at Wyong on May 13. Nothing went right for the horse, literally from the beginning, but there was enough to like about his ‘ending’ to follow up here. Obviously, he will be better for the experience and Tommy Berry stick. Sleipnir is a regally bred son of More Than Ready out of Jolie Bay. That said, he is a gelding so he will have to earn his reputation on the racetrack. Showing good signs early that he will win races. Rocstar Boy, the great-grandson of Alinghi, gets the good draw and the step up in trip – tick and tick.

Bet: Royalzel to win, quinella 1,9

RACE 2

Armour Force, a half-brother to four stakes-winners, debuted over 1200m and gets straight out to 1500m now which looks like a winning play from the Freedman’s. He’s had a bit of luck with the draws early on, gate one both times so you’d think he gets a perfect trail here under Tye Angland’s man, Josh Parr. Peggy Jean’s son, California Sky, was run down over the mile by the exciting Wicklow et al second-up. Penza, nice draw, 1500m – all good. Captivare should have won a maiden by now. Just burned too many bridges with most of us. Ditto Jimmy’s Dream

Bet: Armour Force to win

RACE 3

Trivia time. Pia Sofia is owned by Catherine Remond and trained by Ron Quinton who rode Mrs Remond’s father, Stanley Wootton’s Bletchingly to win the 1975 Galaxy! Now for more pressing matters; Pia Sofia has raced without a lot of luck these last few starts but she does appear to have her hoof on the till. Got the good draw too which will assist. Shamani is a dual acceptor which deserves close attention no matter where she goes. Peaks soon. Highballer was given every chance and then some by Jess del Frari first-up. Why not again from box two?

Bet: Pia Sofia to win, exacta 8 to beat 5

RACE 4

Eminencia was born and bred at Corumbene which was the home of her grandam, Heart Ruler and great-grandam Born To Be Queen, who, amazingly, both won The Metropolitan. This current day filly is by I Am Invincible and turned heads with her booming four-lengths trial win at Brad Widdup’s home course 15-days ago. Carlisle Bay has a moderate sized X-Factor about him. Somewhat enigmatic, he could run a race here or do nothing. Former Victorian filly Taylor’s Dream has run well in all three outings for Robert and Luke Price.

Bet: Eminencia to win, Carlisle Bay to place

RACE 5

Jeff Penza must have lost count of how many wins he has ridden for Bede, Graeme and Paul Murray over the years. He’ll be keen to add another one to the tally, for Paul, when he hops aboard the rather underrated filly Seelie Queen. She came a long way in her first preparation evidenced by her scorecard which reads ‘561’. At home on Tuesday and drawn the rails. Let Me Think is a 100/1 on the last trial but would be five or six bucks on the one before that. Might be a case of wait and see the flucs with her. Duchess and Raison D’Etre have claims.

Bet: Seelie Queen each-way, quinella 8,11, Daily Double 1st leg (11), 2nd leg (12).

RACE 6

Tongariro has only won twice in 16 starts but bear in mind that one of the wins was first-up and the other one was at Kembla. Now consider that son of Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom is both first-up and at Kembla. The trial was pretty good at the start of the month and he gets in with 54.5kg, the same weight with the same jockey (Tyler Schiller) as his Kembla win. Liveinthelfastlane only has to repeat her Provincial Championship Final run and not her Hawkesbury Cup run and she medals. Stablemate Auburn Boy is always a hope.

Bet: Tongariro to win, exacta 1,7, box trifecta 1,3,7,10

RACE 7

Accoy has only won three of his 32 starts but he is very much one of those tempo/luck/track bias related types; when he gets the stars to align, he really can launch himself. Oh, and I should have mentioned earlier, all three of his wins are at Kembla. Rachel King riding him for the third straight time. She must sense he is peaking too. Madam Charm was runner-up to Nikau here on April 17. Madam Charm won on May 4, Nikau won again on May 22. Black Wand is always capable of barnstorming his way to victory.

Bet: Accoy to win, box trifecta 5,8,9,12
