Politologue tops 10 entries in Clarence House Chase at Ascot
The Paul Nicholls-trained Politologue heads 10 possible runners in Saturday’s Grade Two Matchbook Betting Exchange Clarence House Chase at Ascot.
The Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase title-holder returned to action with a seven-length victory in the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown last month and is set to take in this weekend’s assignment en route to defending his Festival crown.
He could be joined by stable companion Duc Des Genievres, who was narrowly beaten in the Shloer Chase earlier in the season before a respectable third in the Ladbrokes Desert Orchid at Kempton over Christmas, while King George VI Chase runner-up Waiting Patiently has also been given the option in this two-mile contest by his trainer Ruth Jefferson.
Defi Du Seuil was all the rage for Cheltenham after winning last year’s Clarence House by the best part of three lengths but blotted his copybook last March and wasn’t any better when pulling up on his return to action in the Shloer.
He could bid to get back on track for trainer Philip Hobbs and owner JP McManus.
