Mr McCann, who is owned by five Liverpool stars, will make his debut in the opening race at Leicester on Tuesday.

Captain Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are part of the syndicate who own Mr McCann along with former Red Adam Lallana, who is now at Brighton.

The colt, who cost £65,000, is trained by Tom Dascombe at Michael Owen’s stable in Cheshire. He was named after Liverpool’s press officer Matt McCann.

Runninwild stunned punters with a 200-1 win in the six-furlong maiden at Redcar on Monday. 

Trainer Ann Duffield said: ‘At home he’s always shown promise so we’re not surprised.’ Five minutes earlier Katie’s Kitten had won at 100-1 at Leicester.
