Jumps jockey Darryl Horner Jr suspended for failed drug test at Warrnambool
Jumps jockey Darryl Horner Jr’s win in the Brierly Steeplechase came at a cost after stewards banned him for a month for a failed drug test.
Horner Jr won the Warrnambool feature on Flying Agent on May 5 but was stood down from riding 13 days later after testing positive for a banned substance.
Horner Jr submitted urine samples on both May 5 and May 6 before riding at Warrnambool. Analysts later concluded both contained an unnamed substance.
Stewards concluded their inquiry into Horner Jr’s tests at Hamilton on Tuesday.
Horner Jr pleaded guilty to two charges of producing urine samples containing a banned substance.
He was suspended for a month on both charges. Stewards ruled Horner Jr could serve his penalties concurrently.
Horner Jr’s penalty started on May 18, the day on which he was stood down, and will end at midnight on June 18.
