Jockey Patrick Moloney gets credit for River Views shock win in VOBIS Gold Ingot at Caulfield
Co-trainer Michel Kent Jr was happy to give all the credit to jockey Patrick Moloney after River Views shock win in the VOBIS Gold Ingot (1400m) at Caulfield.
River Views had been beaten in provincial maidens at two of his last three starts but posted his first win in exciting fashion on Saturday.
Kent Jr said Moloney approached himself and training partner Mick price with the idea of riding River Views back in the field for the first time.
The son of Written Tycoon hadn’t finished his races off as well as expected when ridden closer to the speed, so the trainers agreed with Moloney’s suggestion.
“I went to Michael and Mick this morning and I said ‘what do you reckon about riding that horse quiet as I reckon he will have to do too much from that wide draw’.” Moloney said.
“I’ve been doing a bit of work for them now and they were happy to back me in.”
River Views ($41) came from last at the top of the straight to score what turned out to be a comfortable win, shocking both his trainers and punters.

“It was a massive surprise, we weren’t sure he could win at all,“ Kent Jr said.
“We just tried something different today, up in trip and ridden cold, he was dominant.”
Kent Jr said the manner of River Views‘ win would give connections plenty of options with the rising three-year-old.
“I wouldn’t say he’s shown us Group class potential, he just keeps improving,” he said.
“It’s opened up a few more avenues for him now.”
Umgawa ($21) held second ahead of the winner‘s stablemate, the $4.40 equal favourite Sunfall.
Kent Jr said Sunfall pleased the stable with his effort.
“Sunfall ran well too, just got a bit of traffic in the straight but massive win by the winner,” he said.
