Horse racing tips, best bets for Eagle Farm, Randwick and Caulfield

Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner in the major races this weekend.

Last week … Four winners. Chris Vernuccio and Darren Prendergast were counting the money early with Zaaki ($2.20), likewise Nick Quinn with Heart Of Puissance ($2.10), while Simon Moy returned to the winners’ list with Horrifying ($4.40) and added his value bet All Of Brighton ($4.60) to boot.

Saturday: ROYAL RANDWICK (9 races, start 11.25am), EAGLE FARM (9 races, 11.34am), FLEMINGTON (9 races, 11.45pm), MORPHETTVILLE PARKS (9 races, 11.55pm), BELMONT (9 races, 2.02pm).

EAGLE FARM

NATHAN EXELBY (Sky Racing). Form: 15130

EXPLOSIVE JACK (Race 7, No.1 — $2.80)

Took a big step to surprise in ATC Derby then a class above sitting wide and too strong in South Australia. Main danger (on paper) Senor Toba is drawn to be out the back/wide, so he should have a march on him when they turn for home and looks like stablemate Let’s Karaka Deel can be the one to test again.

Value bet: CONVERGE (Race 6, No.8 — $2)

TRENTON AKERS (Courier Mail). Form: x5

FASHCHANEL (Race 1, No.10 — $2.40)

An in-form mare who has been performing well in Sydney and should find things easier here in Class 6 grade in Brisbane with star jockey Jamie Kah booked to ride. Expect her to be going very close in this assignment.

Value bet: HEZASHOCKA (Race 7, No.16 — $23)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Racing News Editor) Form: 72871

SAVATIANO (Race 8, No.13 — $4)

The mare goes into the Kingsford-Smith Cup with the best form after a close second in the All Aged Stakes. She has been kept fresh, which has been the key to her success this year. Her 1300m record is outstanding (six wins from 10 starts) and she’s also exceptional on good tracks.

Value bet: SENOR TOBA (Race 7, No. 9 — $5.50)

ROYAL RANDWICK

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 54252

APRIL RAIN (Race 7, No.3 — $1.90)

She will improve off her first-up run where she raced on a tight-turning track and that doesn’t suit her style. She’ll get plenty of time to wind up and attack the line.

Value bet: KALASHNIKOV (Race 1, No.1 — $8.50)

MITCH COHEN (Racenet) Form: 7262x

APRIL RAIN (Race 7, No.3 — $1.90)

Happy to take the short odds about this Chris Waller-trained mare. She was super from back in the field despite not winning last start at Gosford and should make natural improvement second up. Ticks the track and distance boxes with a red-hot Tommy Berry aboard.

Value bet: NICCI’S FLING (Race 4, No.5 — $7.50)

JETT HATTON (Racenet) Form: 44252

APRIL RAIN (Race 7, No.3 — $1.90)

Her first-up effort behind the handy Stellar Pauline was good and expecting this promising mare to improve leaps and bounds off that run. Getting on the larger Randwick tracks suits, this isn’t a strong field and April Rain has good upside. Given even luck, it’s hard to see her getting beat.

Value bet: MADAM ROUGE (Eagle Farm, Race 9, No.1 — $9)

CAULFIELD

GILBERT GARDINER (Herald Sun). Form: 52×45

TAN TAT HARMONY (Race 4, No.11 — $7.00)

Unbeaten second up. Showed good fight last start, making ground to finish second behind Pintoff. Can go one better.

Value bet: ADELAIDE ACE (Race 5, No.4 — $6.50)

BRAD WATERS (Racenet) Form: 3x33x

PINTOFF (Race 3, No.2 — $3.80)

Trainer Richard Cully has this bloke racing in great form with strong wins at both runs this time in. He’ll be fitter again and rates a great chance for the hat trick.

Value bet: FOREVER FREE (Race 2, No.2 — $23)

Pintoff has won both starts this campaign and can bring up the hat-trick at Caulfield on Saturday. Photo: Vince Caligiuri/Getty ImagesSource:Getty Images

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun) Form: 16217

YONKERS (Race 6, No.4 — $2.80)

Consistent horse who is racing in good form at the moment and has a great record at the track.

Value bet: SAVATIANO (Eagle Farm Race 18 No.13 — $4)

SIMON MOY (NewsRacing) Form: 403×1

SPRING CHOICE (Race 7, No.3 — $5.00)

Rounded them up with ease at Sandown last start and all three starts since returning have been full of merit. Despite coming back slightly in distance can repeat here.

Value bet: SEB SONG (Race 8, No.4 — $4.20)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 44811

SET THE SAILS (Race 1, No.2 — $2.20)

Promising colt from the all-conquering Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable who should have won on debut at Geelong and looks perfectly placed to go one better and help punters bounce the ball with a win at Caulfield.

Value bet: THINK ‘N’ FLY (Race 5, No.10 — $7.50)
