Glen Boss says Away Game is ready to win the Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas after an impressive Gold Coast trial win

Glen Boss has shaken off concussion and declared Away Game is “flying” as an impressive trial win caused his confidence to soar about creating history and toppling $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas favourite Isotope on Saturday week.

Boss spent Saturday night in a Brisbane hospital after a fall after the post at Eagle Farm which left him needing to pass a concussion test to be cleared to ride.

Boss and wife Sloane, who is in Queensland with him, have also received negative COVID test results as required after Queensland changed its border restrictions with Victoria on the weekend.

“I’m just a little bit sore in the shoulder but I’m fine as far as the concussion, I was just a bit fuzzy at the time,” Boss said.

Boss partnered Away Game in a 3yo trial over 900m on the Gold Coast course proper on Tuesday morning, with the Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace filly rolling along on-speed to win in 52.38secs.

Isotope, the Tony Gollan-trained filly who is the $3 Guineas favourite after a pair of wins in stakes grade, was more than three quarters of a length away in third and was given some urging by jockey Ryan Maloney.

Isotope’s owners Black Soil Bloodstock declared it was a “reconnaissance mission” to give the filly “a good sight and feel for the track.”

Isotope stormed home to pip Away Game on the line when the pair met in the Listed Gold Edition Stakes and immediately post-race Boss insisted “Isotope won’t beat us again, we were only first-up today.”

The three-time Melbourne Cup winning jockey hasn’t changed his thoughts after partnering Away Game in the trial as she returned to the scene of her Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic triumph last year.

Away Game is trying to become a Magic Millions history maker as no horse has ever won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic one year and the 3YO Guineas the next.

“She’s flying,” Boss declared.

“Ciaron told me before the trial she was physically a lot stronger and she sure was.

“I think absolutely everything would have to go right for Isotope to beat us in the Guineas and even if it does we can still win.

“There is no guessing with Away Game, you know what you are going to get.

“She is going to break quickly, get into the right spot and give a very good kick when it is required.”

“She is one of those animals that everything she does is at 120 per cent.”

Ladbrokes has Away Game on the second line of Guineas betting at $6.
